Healthy Eats | My Everyday Breakfast Smoothie

Random Mia fact - I have never been a big breakfast fan. I've always preferred a light breakfast like fruit, yogurt, small bowl of cereal, a piece of toast, etc. Dustin loves going out to breakfast, I hate it. I can't do greasy egg meals. We compromise, but I will only ever order a waffle or pancake. Weird?

This brings me to my favorite breakfast, what I drink pretty much every single morning. I love it! It's delicious and gives me a great boost to start my day. I make one everyday as I'm heading out the door to work and drink it on the way. Measurements and ingredients are all approximate because you can do it however you want with whatever you want. My stuff varies occasionally, you'll see below.

Breakfast

My Go-To Breakfast Smoothie

4-6 oz Green Juice (I usually use Odwalla or Suja)
4-6 oz Almond Milk
4 tablespoons Yogurt (I normally use Greek)
Handful of fresh or frozen berries
Half a banana, fresh or frozen
Tablespoon of Flax
Teaspoon of Chia seed

1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder on gym days
Handful of spinach if I have it on hand

Blend and enjoy!

I read this Food Babe article on store bought juice labels a while back, it was pretty interesting if you're curious on which ones are the best for you...

Do you like going out to breakfast?
Are you a green smoothie fan?

  2. I love how filling smoothie's are! This recipe sounds so good!! I like breakfast on the weekends, but during the week I keep it very simple with either a yogurt or oatmeal with fruit! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  3. I do love a good smoothie. I think I am going to go back to them for breakfast during the week again. I get really bored with oatmeal and sometimes I cant force myself to eat it, but a smoothie always goes down smooth. See what I did there? Hehe :)

  11. I love smoothies! I drink Shakeology most days, but in the evenings after my workout. I used to not be able to eat breakfast at all, it made me nauseous! But now I've trained myself to eat it and I can't go without it!

  12. This definitely inspired me to get back on the green smoothie train! This looks absolutely delicious - I'll have to pick up the ingredients next time I go to the store. I'm with you on the breakfast thing, too - is it weird that I just don't really like eggs in general?

  13. I only like going out for breakfast when we have visitors. I also don't like to eat a lot for breakfast. I usually just eat some yogurt, or oatmeal. Sometimes a whole wheat English muffin with peanut butter or cottage cheese. Chris gets that same Almond Breeze, or he gets the reduced sugar. That smoothie sounds good though, thanks for sharing! I hope that you had a nice weekend and that you are having a good day today too. :-)

  14. I LOVE breakfast, I could eat it for every meal, and I die if I don't have it in the morning. I keep thinking I need to get on the smoothie train, I think I could do it if I got everything organized and together in servings at the beginning of the week and then just had to throw it in the blender. But I can see how it's such a great way to get so many nutrients, thanks for sharing your recipe!

  26. I love smoothies but I rarely make them in the morning! I always eat Greek yogurt with a bunch of stuff stirred in instead, I really should break out the blender more often.

  31. I went through a phase of having smoothies every morning, but I've just been so obsessed with avocado toast recently that I haven't been giving my blender much love lately! I never thought about adding flax before, do you find it changes the texture at all?

  34. I've been on a total smoothie kick lately, but mine are pretty boring and consist of just greek yogurt, frozen fruit and a little ice, so this is some much needed inspiration for me! I finally bought a pack of chia seeds, but keep forgetting to add those in, so I can't wait to give it a try. I also love the addition of the almond milk, will definitely be trying that out. Thanks for sharing! xoxo

  35. Oh how I love breakfast food... but I love it any time of day. Breakfast for dinner? SOLD! This smoothie looks delish, I really need to start making more smoothies, perfect for a quick on the run breakfast or snack :)

  36. I looooooove breakfast food! All kinds! Mmmmm mmmm, ha ha! I also love smoothies but they never fill me up, so I drink them as more of a snack. They were especially great when I was nursing Mia and had to eat every couple of hours!
My favorite smoothie after a workout is a scoop of chocolate whey protein powder, half a frozen banana, large handful of spinach, about a teaspoon of peanut butter, milk and ice! So good!

  37. The hubby makes us smoothies most mornings. We'll go for a while making them, then not make them for months. We usually include greens in ours, or do a peanut butter one. This looks great!

  38. Ok I'm definitely going to have to try this out one morning! It sounds amazing! I've been wanting to try breakfast smoothies to try to be healthier... my cereal isn't exactly healthy hahaha!

  42. Oh how I wish I was a morning person who had the energy to do stuff like this. I love smoothies and such, but during the week all I ever manage is to grab a piece of bread on my way out the door. I admire you for doing this every day! :)

  44. I never thought about adding green juice to my smoothie. You are a genius! My mother-in-law recently gave us her smoothie maker that she wasn't using. It's so nice to have the blender become the cup! I always hated all the dishes...

  45. I am the same way, huge breakfasts just aren't my thing. My AM smoothie is really similar (also made in a ninja - aka the loudest blender on the planet lol). I can't use banana's sadly because my tummy really hurts when I eat those, but I use stony field organic french vanilla yogurt, organic frozen fruit (blueberries, strawberries, mango), and ground flax seed. My preferred method is to then add coconut water, but it's $4.99 for a tiny bottle so I switched to just regular water. But, it's still delicious!

  46. I've got to get back to making smoothies. Cory and I both enjoyed them but I never thought to add yogurt!

  47. I've been wanting to add smoothies to my breakfast menu for so long....I'm just too lazy.
But not anymore!! They're so easy and there's so many kinds you can make.
    Have any other favorite kinds?
