For the Moment...

These last 2 weeks have rocked my world. Everything came crashing down but I quickly realized that what first seemed so bad, I now see it's a really really good thing. Funny how that happens, right? How something so bad may actually save your life, be that "way out" you've been praying for.

I'll be gone for a while, I have to work on fixing my body & my mind. Dr's orders- cut out everything that causes any stress what so ever. I'm focusing on 100% total relaxation, freeing my mind of it all. Unfortunately, blogging has to take a back seat for a while. Dustin and I leave for Cancun in less than 2 weeks, we'll be celebrating 7 years of marriage. Side note- Gosh I love that man! I haven't even really thought about it or got excited about our trip yet, but I know it's coming at just the right time. I'm ready for a week of relaxed bliss.

One day I will be ready to talk about this, blog about it. Maybe next month, maybe next year. Simply because 2 blogs I've come across while researching have helped me tremendously. They shared their journey, and I will one day as well. But for now, I'll be doing what's best for ME.

My love for Insta isn't going anywhere though ;) @makemeupmia

July Faves | Food Edition

Well friends, this is going to be the last Monthly Favorites post for Kelli and I. We aren't sure if it will pick back up, but for now we both have some things going on that are pulling us away from blogging a little. #life right? My blogging is going to be pretty sparse, just popping in here and there. We decided it would be best for this to be the last one for now. So join in with us one last time!

Clearly, I was all about the food this last month... What's new?!

+ The Van's Blueberry Walnut granola has quickly become my favorite. It's fresh & chewy, just sweet enough and the most delicious addition to a Greek yogurt + fresh fruit bowl.

+ You know me and my sweet treats. The Think Thin High Protein Chunky Peanut Butter bar and Luna Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein bars have been my jam.

+ If you haven't had the Al Fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage, drop whatever you're doing now and run to the store. It's so so good! We used it in my Creamy Zucchini Skillet recipe and we both couldn't shut up about how delicious it was. Dustin asked if I put brown sugar in it, so sweet & yummy. Our local grocery store & Super Target carry it.

:: Recipes ::

+ Recently Karly shared a link to this Light Crock Pot Fiesta Chicken & Rice Bowls recipe. We made it, it doesn't disappoint. It's super easy, simple & healthy. My kind of dish.

+ I shared my new found love for Oopsie bread on Instagram recently. My mother in law introduced me to it and Dustin and I are both loving it. I make a batch on the weekend to have throughout the week. It couldn't be any easier. Only a few ingredients, 1g carb per piece & gluten free. WIN!
Oopsie Bread
3 eggs, seperated
dash of salt
3 oz low fat cream cheese
1 tsp baking powder

Place egg whites in one bowl and yolks in another. Add the dash of salt to the egg whites and beat until very stiff. Add the cream cheese and baking powder in the egg yolks, beat until smooth. Slowly fold the yolk mixture into the egg whites. Spoon large spoonfuls onto 2 baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake at 300 for 25 minutes. Should make 6-8.

I store them in a ziploc bag in the refrigerator.
*Here is a great video example.

+ I've also been eating my PB&J Protein Cake for breakfast, a lot.... I mean, who doesn't want a massive bowl of cake for breakfast? And one you don't have to feel guilty about!

And now I'm hungry friends! What are you all up to this weekend? I'm heading to Dallas Friday morning with my friend Angela for the weekend. We'll be attending Success School for Advocare and I can't wait. I'm excited for a few days away with my friend, learning & soaking up all the information & the sights of Dallas.

Summer Salad Love.

I'm a salad addict. I enjoy eating several of them a week, I pray I never get sick of them. Not sure what I'd eat! There are 2 types of people in this world - ones that like a salad with berries in it and ones that think that's disgusting. I get it, I have plenty of odd dislikes. *Ahem* won't touch seafood because sea creatures freak me out.

I'm a berry in my salad kind of girl though.

I love throwing stuff together and creating recipes that become staple foods in my diet. So I thought I'd share a favorite lunch of mine, for team berries in yo' salad.

Healthy Eating

What I use:
(I track my food, so these are just the measurements I use)

2 oz Lettuce
.5 oz Spinach
25g Blueberries
30g Raspberries
30g Strawberries
1/4 C (65g) Garbanzo beans
1/4 C (56g) Low fat cottage cheese
1 can of chicken, drained *I mix the cottage cheese & chicken together then add to salad
2 Tbsp Raspberry vinaigrette dressing
Topped with a serving of sliced almonds and 1/2 serving of Snapea Crisps

Healthy, light & simple! It's a big and very filling salad too, don't let the pic fool you. Served with a side of Fruit Punch Spark too of course.

Nutrition for exactly what I use:
Calories: 361
Carbs: 38g
Fat: 9g
Protein: 34g
Fiber: 12g

What is your favorite summer salad?

#Prayformayberry Update || He's Coming Home!

It's been a little while since I've shared anything or updates on my brother. Sept 1st will be 2 years since his accident, I can't believe we're approaching the 2 year mark. The craziest part, he's made the most progress these last couple of months. With a TBI injury, you have absolutely no way of knowing the outcome. When progress will stop, if they'll make progress at all, etc. In the beginning months the doctors didn't know if he'd live, and thought that if he did he'd have no quality of life. Months and months of uncertainty, waiting for him to wake up.

We kept our faith and we always knew that he'd be ok. This boy was going to walk again. Well guess what, he's walking alright. My sweet little brother, the 6 foot 7 walking, talking, Jesus praising miracle <3

My family is scheduled to come home to Oklahoma in 2 weeks. They'll be leaving Florida, where Christian has been receiving rehab at FINR over the last year, and returning home. The trial is scheduled to start Monday Aug 10th, they will be present for that. Christian is at a point where he can be home now, he'll still have outpatient rehab and still has a ways to go, but he can come home! I thought I'd take a moment to give you a little update on what he's been up to lately.

 -He turned 18 in February.
-He's walking, on his own!
-He's gone from not being able to see in front of his face to watching tv with mom.
-He got to watch fireworks in Wauchula.
-He would live on hamburgers & cheesecake if mom would let him, all the boy talks about.
-His class graduated this May. It was bittersweet of course and even though he wasn't able to be there or walk across the stage, they sent him a cap & gown. A graduation party was planned for him at FINR and all kinds of people came to celebrate him. He had a wonderful time, hamming it up & soaking up all of the attention.

As my family prepares to come home, I'd love it if you could keep them in your prayers. Moving back, attending the trial, starting a new normal, financial stresses, etc. Prayers for strength, for Christian & my mom. Also, there are still updates and all kinds of videos (several of him walking) posted regularly to the Facebook page. Thank you all so much for following along and for your constant prayers, sweet words & support.

PB&J Cake for Breakfast? Oh yes.

You know I'm a sweets kind of girl. I'm a pretty healthy eater though, so I love experimenting to create things that satisfy my love for sweets without sacrificing healthy eating as much as I can. Last week I had a protein smoothie on the menu for breakfast but for some reason I just wasn't feeling it. So, I took the same ingredients, added my baking powder and made it a big ol' piece of breakfast cake that was heavenly. It was so good that I had to recreate it 2 days later to eat, and blog about of course.

I make single serving protein cakes/brownies all the time with different flavors of protein and ingredients. Chocolate peanut butter is my go to. It's an awesome way to get high protein, low carb and you really feel like you're being oh so naughty, but you aren't! You have to have a good tasting quality protein or else it's underwhelming, but with a good protein powder, they are seriously delicious... I'm going to list the ingredients below that I used for this one, but use any amount or variation you prefer. The base of a standard "Protein Brownie" consists of 1 scoop protein powder, 1/4 c milk, 1 tsp baking powder, microwave for 40 sec. Toppings of your choice.

Breakfast Protein Cake
Crappy images are a result of 6 am bad lighting... ;)

PB&J Protein Cake

1/4 C frozen berries
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp flax
1 tsp chia
1/4 C unsweetened almond milk
Pinch of Stevia *not pictured

What I did:
I microwaved the berries for 15 seconds.  Added the protein powder, chia, flax, baking powder, pinch of stevia and almond milk in the bowl, stir until creamy. Microwave for 30 seconds, let sit a few seconds and microwave for another 30 seconds. As you can see, it grows while cooking in the microwave so you just don't want it to overflow. Remove & drizzle your peanut butter on top. Devour that cake!

Macros for exactly what I used:
Calories 226 / Fat 7g / Carb 14g / Protein 28g / Fiber 7g

Can't beat those macros for a breakfast cake the size of your face & packed with protein! It's gluten free too, if you were curious.

Do you enjoy creating recipes?

An Oklahoma Blogger.

When I first started blogging, I immediately remember searching for other Oklahoma bloggers. I wanted to connect, see what other women in my state were blogging about, where they were blogging from. I quickly came across the Oklahoma Women Bloggers site.

I immediately signed up and since that day, I've been an Oklahoma Women Blogger myself. I've enjoyed reading other blogs, meeting women along the way & building friendships. Blogging has been so much more than I expected it to be. When I first started my blog 2 years ago, I had NO idea that special relationships would be a part of it. Not just with Oklahoma women, but with women all over the country, heck the world. I have made "blogging" friends that I have already hung out with or would hop on a flight to spend the weekend with them in a heartbeat. It's something special. I'm thankful for Oklahoma Women Bloggers, thankful for the friends I've made along the way and proud to be a part of it.

Bigfoot Creative printed these awesome OWB shirts for us. They're a screen printing, graphic design and retail clothing store located in downtown Norman. They did a fabulous job. I love my shirt & I'm proud to wear it!

Have you connected with other bloggers in your state?

Polish Love || Sally Hansen Miracle Gel + A Giveaway!

Remember when I shared my love for the CND Vinylux Weekly polishes? Well I still love those but I found another one that is equally fantastic but this one is a little easier to find. The top coat alone on any polish works better than any other top coat I've used, as far as making polish last. The Miracle Gel polishes + top coat are a dream. The formula is great and I get well over a week with them. I've been testing them out for a while now, so today I'm sharing them with you and swatches of the 3 colors I currently own.

Miracle Gel Polish

Miracle Gel Polish

Buy from.
Any drugstore (Target, Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, etc.)

Price point.
$7.19-$7.99 is what I've seen for a single. Some places you can find a combo set that has a top coat & 1 polish color.

Polish lasted.
Normal polish with this gel top coat, about 5-6 days.

Monthly Favorites || June 2015

Happy July 1st friends! Who else has a short work week this week? It's that time again, time to share what we were all loving in the month of June. Grab a button below if you want to and join in with Kelli and I for our June 2015 favorites.

Make Me Up Mia

I really don't have much this month, June seriously flew by and I didn't really try out anything new or even experiment with anything outside of my usual products. There are a few products though that I've been reaching for a lot more recently and especially loving....
Maybelline Bobbi Brown Elf

+ Looking for a perfect summer color for your cheeks? My Rose Shimmer Brick has been my recent #1. Such a beautiful blend of pinks with the perfect highlight mixed in. Swoon.

+ I've had this liner and lipstick for a long time. I'd never even used the liner until last month and now it's a favorite. The liner is darker and the lipstick is light, blending together perfectly for a nice light mauve shade. I'm a mauve girl for sure, what kind of lip shade girl are you?

+ I've yet to conquer the art of contouring, it's on my life list ya'll. Bronzer always makes me feel like I look like a clown, but THIS stuff is a different story. A light all over golden bronze shade perfect for summer. I just dust a little on my forehead & cheeks. It's subtle, just the right amount for my pale skin. And who doesn't love a $3 price tag?

+ Last but not least, these gorgeous lashes. I shared a full review and look last week. You can check it out here

PS- Thank you all for all your sweet comments on last week 5 Reasons Why I Lift post. You're all the B E S T!

Your turn, tell me what you've been loving?

Date Night Glam with Esqido Lashes

*Product was sent to me for review purposes, all thoughts & opinions are my own.
Esqido Lashes
Last weekend Dustin and I planned a date night. Almost every weekend consists of some sort of date for us, but this time I wanted to dress up a little. I had a skirt and pair of heels that had yet to be worn. I thought this would be the perfect time to try out my lashes that ESQIDO Lashes sent to me. I work in an office, so lashes aren't something I wear on a day to day basis. I love to wear them for special occasions or date nights, they just add some fun glam. I was familiar with ESQIDO false lashes thanks to my favorite YouTuber Jaclyn Hill & the beautiful Maskcara. Now it was my turn to give them a try....

These lashes are soft & light and the packaging is beautiful. Who else is a sucker for pretty packaging? They're mink lashes which means you can get up to 25 uses out of them! The standard false lash is only recommended to be used 5-10 times. While they are real mink, no worries-

"Our original mink lashes are handcrafted from the finest responsibly sourced mink fur. Our fur is collected from the natural shedding/molting cycles of the mink animal, which are then sterilized to ensure that they are hypoallergenic and suitable for wear."
                                                                                         -Esqido Website

Unforgettable Oh So Sweet

Application process

+ Remove lashes gently from tray with tweezers, do not tug on individual strands.
+ Measure the lashes by fitting them to your natural lash line. Trim off the excess from the outer corner.
+ Apply lash glue along the entire cotton band and wait a few seconds (I lightly blow on the glue)
+ Apply the lashes to the base of your natural lash line, and hold for a few seconds.

Oh So Sweet

I was sent 2 pair, Unforgettable & Oh So Sweet. For our date night I went with Oh So Sweet. I loved them, even more than I expected to. They applied so easily, looked gorgeous and I completely forgot I was wearing them all night long. The name Oh So Sweet is fitting, they are just that - soft & sweet. I can't wait to wear them more.

Esqido Lashes

Do you wear or skip false lashes for special occasions?

New Hair || Product Love.

Bumble and Bumble Nume Davines

Most of you know I just chopped off all my hair a few weeks ago. I recently treated myself for my 29th birthday and cut about 12 inches off and also got a Keratin treatment. I have awful & unruly hair. (see here) Naturally very curly, but not pretty curly, insanely frizzy curly. My hair was a constant battle and I wore it up 99% of the time to not have to mess with it. I wanted a change, a style. I knew the Keratin treatment was my only hope to keep up said style though. I highly recommend it! It's not cheap, but if you have awful hair that more often than not brings you down, you'll pay anything for real help. I can now blow dry my hair and have nice relaxed, manageable & shiny hair, it's a million times worth it to me. I wanted to share how I've been wearing/styling my hair and a few products that I've been loving with you. Let me know if you have any questions about the Keratin treatment as well.

I wash my hair every 2-3 days. I shower every single day, but my hair is thick so it's very easy for me to skip washes. When you have color & chemically treated hair, you really want to stretch that as long as possible, so it works out for me. On day 1 after I've washed it the night before, I run the straightener through it a little and don't use any product. On day 2 I use my Nume wand to add some curls/wave, sprinkle a little Pret-a-Powder on the roots for grit & texture and use my Davines Finishing Gum to really emphasize the texture around the bottom. On day 3 I add a little more Pret-a-Powder around my scalp (works like a dry shampoo) and a little more Finishing Gum throughout the bottom and a few pieces all over. That's it! My waves are perfect from the day before. I am loving my new hair, it's like a whole new head of hair for me. More on products below & enjoy the car selfies.... #ididitfortheblog

Bumble and Bumble Nume Davines
Bumble and Bumble Nume Davines

I like to use a little Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer spray for protection and Repair Blow Dry cream for added moisture after I wash & before I blow dry. I've really become a huge Bumble fan over the last year.

As mentioned above, I use the Nume 25mm Classic wand to add curls/waves to my hair. This wand is amazing ladies. The YouTube beauty guru hype is legit. The curls only get better after 1-2 days. That's even after having it in a ponytail while working out and sleeping on it! Can't say enough good things about it. You can always find big coupon codes & deals, I paid $50 for mine. The Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder is another fabulous find. It's a dry shampoo, style extender and volumizer all in 1. It blends into your hair great and doesn't leave a gross texture like other similar products.

If you have a textured cut, you N E E D Davines This Is A Medium Hold Finishing Gum in your life. It gives you that perfect piece-y texture without making your hair gross. I can use this on day 2 and day 3, no problem. It rocks. Using products like dry shampoos, texturizers and pastes can dull or mattify your hair a little so I've always been a shine spray fan. I'm on my 3rd bottle of the Smooth Sexy Smooth & Seal Anti-Frizz & Shine Spray. Who doesn't want their hair to be shiny?!

And, I've used the TRESemme' 3 hairspray for as long as I can remember. So cheap, so good.

Tell me your favorite hair products!

The Blogger Made Me Do It.

We're playing the blame game today. I know, rude huh? I bet it's safe to say we've all gone out and bought some stuff that we've seen on other blogs or vlogs. Maybe eyed some things then finally went for it. Raise your hand if you're with me here. I'm sharing a few things that I'm guilty of buying because other bloggers shared their love for them. These are all things that I'm certainly happy I went for. I know there's more, probably a TON more, but these are just a handful of the items and who exactly is to blame. I'm coming for ya!

Item: Essie Find Me an Oasis
Blogger to blame: Carly- Carly Blogs Here
Honestly, I'm not a fan of blues & greens on me usually. I'm a pink & red girl. I like them on others, just always feel weird when I wear them. This one however is different, it's so light and I just love it.

Blogger to blame: Amanda- Meet @ The Barre
I'm a total chapstick addict, I put it on a bazillion times a day. I love this one, it's light and the hint of eucalyptus is so refreshing.

Item: May Books
Blogger to blame: Meghan - Champagne and Suburbs
I kept seeing these and countless times created one and added it to my cart then I'd tell myself "You do not need another notebook." Then they had a 50% off sale and I grabbed 2. They're so cute and convenient to keep in my purse. One is my bible study notebook and one I use for all kinds of stuff.

Item: Rimmel lip liner in Eastend Snob
Blogger to blame: Karly- Miss in the Midwest
This is such a great pink nude liner, you really can use it with almost anything.

Blogger to blame: Shay- Mix and Match Family (here & here
Mod About You reminds me of Essie's Fiji, but I like this formula better. It lasts longer. Such a perfect milky & bright pink shade for summer. The WEN mask is seriously amazing, it makes my hair so soft & shiny. I need to get more, I've been hoarding my last little bit for a while now. She did a hair mask experiment and this was her favorite, I can see why.

Blogger to blame: Jen- IHeart Organizing
I know you know what I mean when I say that trying to find the perfect lighting for your blog pictures is a constant struggle. I work full time so when the lighting is best, I'm not home to shoot anything. Jen shared some photography tips here and this kit was one of them. I thought for under $60 it was worth a try. Definitely!

Item: Target Bodycon skirt
Blogger to blame: Amanda- Meet @ The Barre, again...
When Amanda first shared this on Instagram, I was immediately in love with it. I just kept thinking about it. Then she shared it on her blog, it's only $19.99 people! Had to have it, clicked purchase right away.

And one more perfect example- Biana from B Loved Boston shared this self tanner last week in her May Favorites, I bought it yesterday. I will be trying it this week but I've seen nothing but positive so I doubt I will be disappointed. I've had the worst time with self tanners. I like foams that can be applied with a mitt, they work best in my opinion. A couple I've tried, I liked the color but they either didn't last past a leg shave or you have to wash it off after an hour or so. Who has time for that?
Have I ever caused you to run out and buy anything?

PS- I shared some makeup tips for a 5 minute face last week over on my friend Becky's blog, Olives 'n' Wine. You can check it out here.

Monthly Faves || May 2015

Whew! It's been a minute friends, I'm still here. Oklahoma has been nothing but wet, flooded & cloudy over the last month. I'm sure happy to see the sun shining for the first time this week. I can tell you 1 thing for sure, I am 100% a sunshine girl. Crap weather can sure put you in a funk... How's your weather been?

Kelli and I are back today with our Monthly Faves link up. I'm sharing what I've been doing, loving & watching over the last month. No rules, it's open all month. I can't wait to read all of yours! Grab a button & link up if you'd like-

Make Me Up Mia
Big Change.
About 2 months ago I booked an appointment with Kelsi at Sterling Salon in Tulsa. I wanted a big change, I was treating myself for my birthday. Saturday was the day and I can't say enough good things about Kelsi or the salon, highly recommend it if you're in the Tulsa area. I chopped my hair off, got it colored (I only color because of grays... ugh!) and got a Keratin treatment. The difference after that treatment is amazing, I feel like a normal human being now. I love my cut, exactly what I was wanting! I had a great birthday weekend with family. Dustin made me feel extra special as well, gosh I love that man.

Gold Spray Paint.
I won't say I've gone overboard with it, but Dustin better not let me buy another can or I probably will... I've just been freshening up what I can in our house with a little paint. I'm not a huge interior design person, it's just not something I splurge on. Honestly, it tends to overwhelm me. We've been slowly brightening up our home little by little, I like to save where I can. I'm loving the little changes we've made so far.

Pamper Me.
Dustin and I are now Massage Envy members and loving it. My friend Jen is a member and suggested it to me. If you aren't familiar, they are a chain company and offer custom massages & facials. Beautiful place, great staff. We were both sick of being sore and dealing with all the constant knots in our back so we took the plunge. We get 1 massage a month now. It's nice to have this to look forward to each month. We've been doing a Sunday couples massage. I get mine medium, so I get to enjoy a little relaxing pamper but also get those stupid trouble areas worked on. Lifting weights can be so rough on your body, it's important to take care of yourself. Just took us a little while to figure this out...

Pretty in pink.
I bought Essie's "Boom Boom Room" last year and still love it. It's the perfect Barbie pink, I can't get enough.

TV Obsessions.
Dustin and I are both hooked on Fixer Upper & Parenthood right now. Yes, I know we're late to the Parenthood party but oh my gosh, we can't get enough. We aren't even big tv people but every spare second we get right now, one of us says "let's watch an episode of Parenthood!" We're half way through season 2 right now. Thank you Netflix. And Fixer Upper, seriously how adorable are they? Can Joanna PLEASE come do our house?!

What have you been loving?

Summer 2015 | Where You'll Find Me.

I don't have any major goals this summer, I really just want to enjoy it. I want to spend as much time as possible soaking it up with Dustin and all our friends & family. I don't want to waste time inside worrying about endless to-do lists of things that really aren't that important or be glued to my computer/phone/tv. I can't believe we're already half way through May! I don't want this summer to fly by and look back thinking about how I just wasted it away.  So, what did I do? I made a to-do list..... Funny, eh? BUT, this one is 100% FUN! A few adventures mixed with a few of my summer staples....

I want this summer to end with tan lines that have a story, memories that will forever put a smile on my face and a song that's officially been dubbed My 2015 Summer Jam. To be continued....

PS- I told you last week that we were doing the Tough Mudder this last Saturday, I did it! It was tough, but we had a blast. Our entire course was mud, 10.8 miles of mud is very tiring. Plus the 23 obstacles on top of that. It took us 5 hours to complete. Around mile 8 I could tell I was slowing down a little. My knees and ankles were getting pretty sore, mainly from trying to stay upright in that mud the entire time. I would definitely do it again! It felt pretty awesome to complete that thing ;)

Tell me what's on your summer 2015 bucket list?
