So, our road trip only half way happened... Beware, picture overload below.
We left Friday and started driving west after Dustin made it home from work. We traveled all day Saturday and made it to our hotel at the Grand Canyon Saturday evening around 7pm. The drive really wasn't bad at all. We stopped at the Meteor Crater on the way, Dustin wanted to check it out. It was pretty neat to see.
Sunday, we got up and around and headed to the Grand Canyon for the day to explore.
Beauty doesn't even begin to describe it. It was absolutely stunning, breathtaking, peaceful and heavenly. The weather couldn't have been more beautiful either, it was sunny, 60 degrees and still as could be.
Monday morning Dustin woke up sick! He had a fever and had been up a good portion of the night. He wasn't feeling well but he didn't want to waste the day, so we went back to the canyon and did another 2 mile trail on the opposite side of the south rim. It was an easy one, but we left as soon as we were done. He was really feeling yucky.
This was the end. Because he was feeling so bad, we decided to call and cancel our reservations in Sequoia National Park, we didn't want to drive another 10 hours west the next day. It was a good thing, because about the time I was going to bed I started to feel feverish. I woke up Tuesday morning throwing up! I became very sick with a stomach bug or something that lasted until Thursday. Being that sick at home is one thing, but on the road is AWFUL. He drove us to Albuquerque where we stayed the night Tuesday, then Wednesday we went to my in-laws in Kansas for a few nights. It was great to see them, I just wish I wasn't sick most of the time. We had a really good time Friday night having pizza and seeing most of the family!
So that is how our road trip went and abruptly ended. I absolutely hate that we didn't get to go on to California and I hate that we both go sick, but that 1 amazing day we spent at the Grand Canyon was worth the drive and everything else. It was probably one of the most perfect days we've ever had…..
