Being Happy in 2014 and My Goals.

Morning loves! Starting 2014 has us all thinking about our resolutions for the new year, setting goals of all the things we want to accomplish. Myself included- I'm going to share them with you below. I do have a small list of goals I want to complete this year, but really I just want to be happy.
Now, don't take that the wrong way. I LOVE doing things for other people, this has nothing to do with that. I'm not saying do things only for you and forget others, no way. Doing for others, compassion and displaying our love for Jesus is something I love and want to do daily, that's a whole other post. I just mean think of 1 or 2 things that make YOU happy and work to make them happen! Little things that you can do in your day to day life. Carve out that time and take it.

Also, this may mean that you have to start saying no to some things. And guess what, that's ok! I read this post recently and I have to say I agree. You do not have to say yes to everything or everyone, there are no rules and this is your life. Do what you want to do... If you're saying yes to someone simply because you feel guilty even though it may take time away from things you love, you should probably say no.

Here are a few little things that genuinely make me happy- Reading my devotional each morning, working out, watching my guilty pleasure shows at the end of a long day (Real Housewives), having alone time with my husband, a bubble bath, makeup shopping, concerts, time with friends, a long hot shower, blogging.

Now I realize I do not have kids, so it's easier for me to do these things than it might be for others. I am a firm believer though that once you have kids, that doesn't mean mommy and daddy need to be neglected. Think about it, if you aren't happy are you being the best parent you can be to your children? Probably not. Am I saying lock your kids in a closet and do what makes YOU happy, heck no! I'm saying just make a little time for you you though, you need it.

Now, onto some of my goals for this year-
-Read 5 books (I am not a reader)
-Buy a camera and take a photography class (Already bought the camera, now I just need to sign up for the class)
-Run 2 5k's this year (I've never ran one; I'm now signed up for The Color Run and Warrior Dash)
-Go on a hike/nature trail somewhere near Oklahoma with Dustin
-Visit The Pink Pistol

Also- Our pastor is doing a sermon right now called Small Things Big Difference. He is teaching on how small changes in your day to day life or thoughts can make huge impacts on you and even others in your life. So far, he has suggested to pick a word, verse and thought focus to focus on this year. You will find what you are looking for when you really focus your thoughts on it. I wanted to share what I have decided to focus on for 2014.

Seek is my word.

"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your whole heart" Jeremiah 29:13 is my verse. This verse has been very special to me for about a year and a half now.

"Lord, help me seek you" is my thought focus for this year. Well more than this year, but I'm really focusing on it right now.

Feel free to join in on this if you feel you want to pick something to direct your 2014 towards.

I'm looking forward to 2014, for multiple reasons. I believe we are going to watch my baby brother make a complete healing!

What is a 2014 goal of yours?

  1. Sometimes we really have to evaluate what we are doing and how we are spending our time! About a year ago I was so unhappy that it was hard for me to go to work each day. I was so stressed and overwhelmed I worked for the weekends only for them to pass too quickly and cry on Sunday because it was over. My weeks were so packed (partly of non- choice job related stuff but also some choices that I made) I felt like the weekend was my only time to relax. Ryan and I made some critical choices and changes. I had to start focusing on me more. As selfish as that sounds. But we can not help or bless anyone else if we are not happy and content. Way to may some choices for you! 2014 is going to be great for you and your family!!

    1. I totally agree, and it's not selfish. It's so true, we can't help or bless anyone if we aren't happy in life. I've been reevaluating stuff lately too. I don't always know the right answers, but we are trying to do things that we enjoy together. Right now it's a little hard, everything that's going on in our lives with my family, things are just hectic. But we're doing the best we can :) Yay for 2014!

  2. Love your thoughts on focusing on 2014. For me, my word would be intentional. There are many things I want to be intentional about, but one of the biggest things I want to be intentional about is letting those I love, family and friends, really know I love them. Every day is such a gift and I don't want to waste a minute of it.

    1. Being intentional is a great one too! So true, you never know what can happen in life so it's so important to let people know how you feel! Love you sweet friend!

  3. So true - we have to do things for ourselves to make us happy so that we can in turn make sure to be happy with others and do great things for others!! You're really going to enjoy the warrior dash - my husband did it last year with a team of people and could not stop talking about it!! a 5K is on my list as well!!

  4. I was just watching the friends episode where Monica and Phoebe are trying to "cut out" one of their friends and there's a scene where Monica is on the phone with the friend and tells her no to doing something and then a second later agrees to something else-- once she gets off the phone Pheobe is like WHY did you just say yes? And Monica says something along the lines of how she has this uncontrollable need to please people/say yes to people! Sorry that was so long-- this just made me think of it though and the importance of doing things for yourself & how it doesn't have to mean being selfish! I love your word for the year! I might try and come up with my own as well!

  6. Love love love all of this! I think your goals are totally realistic and that is awesome that you are already signed up for TWO 5ks! I've definitely been making more of a point to focus on things that make me happy for the past few months and I can truly say it's made a world of difference. I know it's easier now because we don't have kids but I think it's good to make it a priority now so hopefully we can continue that down the road!
