Looking Back, My 2013 in Review.

I honestly can't believe this year is already over. It definitely seems like time is going faster and faster and I don't like it.

2013 started out wonderful, I had a great and blessed year. It quickly became the worst year though for my family. I think we are all ready for 2014 and praying it brings happiness and a healing for my brother!

I had fun looking back on our year and gathering photos to share with you all. I know I will be thankful to have posts like this to look back on in the future. I noticed the beginning of my year wasn't too exciting, but then things really picked up!

{January} Dustin and I went to Colorado with his family. We had an amazing time. I tried skiing for the first, and probably last time. I was a runaway skier several times, enough said.

{March} I attended a couple concerts; Francesca Battistelli and Darius Rucker. We paid off our Honda, one more step to being debt free.

{April} I participated in the Color Run with some friends. We had the best time!

{June} I started this blog and I am so glad I did! This is what it used to look like:

{July} Angela and I went to OKC for the night to see Beyonce. She was about 6 months pregnant and boy was she a trooper. We had to stand the entire time, I felt so bad for her but she rocked out!

{August} Dustin and Robert went to Alaska for a week while Kristal and I stayed here in Oklahoma. Dustin and I celebrated our 5th anniversary. Angela and I saw Taylor Swift, for the 3rd time. My mom and I left for Cancun. (I took my mom for her 50th, but the trip was cut short after 2 days. My brothers accident happened on day 2 of our trip)

{September} My little brother Christian had his accident that would forever change our lives. We sold our truck and bought a Jeep, now officially debt free! Dustin, his brothers, cousin and friend participated in Tough Mudder. We went to the Luke Bryan concert.

{October} Kristal and I threw Angela a baby shower, it turned out so great. Kristal and I also went to Chicago for a weekend, this time leaving our men back in Oklahoma. Such an amazing trip!

{November} Baby Robbie came into this world, and we are so blessed to be honorary Uncle Dustin & Aunt Mia to the little guy. I saw Justin Timberlake in concert with Jen and her sisters. Can you tell I am a lover of all types of music?

{December} Man, December flew by! We had a Christmas celebration at our house this year, it was a different year for sure. You can read about that here

3 things I learned this year:
-Hold your dear ones close.
-ALWAYS purchase trip insurance.
-Don't let fear hold you back, take that leap.

A Different Christmas this year.

Good morning, instead of my normal Friday posts I decided to sit this one out and write about our Christmas this year. I want to write about it for one reason alone, so I can look back a year from now and reflect and see how far we've come. Because I KNOW we will be in a much better place come Christmas 2014.

We had planned to go to Kansas and spend the whole week with my husbands family, we were very much looking forward to it. Then the rear axle on Dustin's Jeep went out. So there went those plans. He and a friend tore it all apart and another friend came and picked it up to take it to their shop and fix it. We just got it back and now he has to replace the brakes and put the Jeep back together.

Then my windshield completely cracked from one side to the other due to the ice we received Saturday. Awesome. I'm looking into getting a new windshield now, the crack is continuing to spread…

We were supposed to host my family at our house Saturday to try and have as semi normal Christmas as possible. Then the ice happened. So that got moved to Monday, which was only because we were now unable to go to Kansas.

Then Christmas eve we were told Christian was going to be heading into surgery to replace the shunt they had put in his head a week prior. Luckily as I was on my way to the hospital they sad they decided to wait 2-3 days to see if the antibiotics would take care of the infection in his shunt. Excited to report, it did! No surgery needed now! So thankful for that, he had been throwing up and had a fever pretty much everyday for a week.

Christmas Eve, Dustin and I were invited over to Kristal's house to spend the evening with her family. It was perfect, we had the best time and it really helped me to get my mind off things. She prepared a beautiful dinner for all of us!

We ended up having a great time on Monday evening with my family. It was nice to have us all together, we just wish Christian didn't have to be in the hospital and was here to enjoy his favorite holiday. I tried to make everything as comfortable and cozy for my family as possible, I wanted my parents to just enjoy themselves for a few hours.

Sunday night, Dustin and I attended Christmas services at our church. It was wonderful as always, I always look so forward to it. At the very end of the service, the church staff and all of us quietly sang Silent Night as we held glow sticks in the dark room. I couldn't help but cry as I thought how 1 year ago my family attended with us and we were doing the exact same thing- singing Silent Night and holding our glow sticks. I thought back to last year and Christian standing there with me, and how I never would have thought "In one year I'll be standing here while Christian is fighting for his life in a Tulsa hospital." Things happen so fast and you never know when something so awful can happen to a loved one.

This was our family last Christmas day 2012, Christian being silly and enjoying his favorite holiday-

All of us, minus dad and Dustin for some reason

Blake & Christian (both of my brothers) and my adorable and silly niece Jadyn

Dustin's step dad Tony, my grandma and Christian playing a game

And here we are 1 year later, Christmas day 2013-

Being that we celebrated Christmas on Monday with my family, I honestly just wanted to stay home and relax Christmas day. I was totally fine with that, or so I thought. As I woke up Christmas morning and looked on Instagram and Facebook like I do every morning before I get out of bed, I saw everyones photos. Photos of trees, stockings, presents and families. I walked into the living room and just started bawling. I didn't think I would be sad, but I was. I wanted our families all there in our pajamas opening up presents and drinking our coffee. I just had to let it all out.

I decided it probably wasn't a good idea for me to just sit home and be sad, so we got cleaned up and went to eat a delicious lunch with Kristal and her family then went onto the hospital to visit Christian and my family. I felt much better as the day went on.

We all have so much to be thankful for. A roof over our heads, clothes, food, heat and we are so blessed that Christian is still with us, and we know that next year WILL be different. I envision a massive Christmas celebration next year with all of our family. We have some major making up to do.

I am not writing this to complain or anything of that nature, as I said above, I truly want to remember this whole week. I want to have it to look back on. It's all just a memory now, I am looking forward to our future and to see what 2014 brings us.

I really hope that you all had a wonderful and very merry Christmas with all your loved ones! Now it's time to ring in the new year :)

PS- Don't forget about the New Year Giveaway, everyone could use a little sparkle! Also, don't forget to start taking daily photos for the new Thankful Thursday link up starting next Thursday Jan 2!

Monthly Faves: Dec 2013

Hey loves, back for another edition of my monthly faves! These are usually newer products I've fallen in love with, products I've rediscovered or just products I just started using. I love them enough to want to share!

This month I only have 4 to share with you. I feel like this month has gone so fast, and I had a hard time getting in the beauty zone, so many other things going on!

One- I started using the Mac Pro Longwear Concealer and instantly fell in love! It's amazing. Covers my under eye area perfectly and doesn't crease. The coverage is perfect and brightening. I LOVE blending it out with the pointed side of my Beauty Blender. This duo is a new fave for sure!

Two- Of course, my Naked3 palette. I got my hands on this as soon as I could. (Stood in line, not proud) I LOVE the pink rose tones of this palette. They really brighten up my eyes. It does not disappoint, no surprise!

Three- I did a post dedicated to the It's a 10 Miracle Leave In Product this week, you can see that here to see exactly why I am loving this product!

Four- When I stood in line to pick up my Naked3 palette, I picked out 1 of the new Sephora Formula X Polish to try out. I had heard nothing but good things about it and had been wanting to try it out. I love the look it delivers and I was impressed by it's wear. It lasted several days. I always use a base and top coat, but this seemed to last a little longer than some others. I will post a pic next time!

There you have it, this months monthly favorites. Let me know if any of these products are faves of yours as well.

I wanted to share a sweet post that a dear friend of mine wrote Saturday. Kristy with Mommy Hates Cooking has been a friend of mine since we were little! She is so sweet and donated to my family recently, my family was so touched! You can read her sweet post here. Thank you Kristy & Great Day Farms, God bless!

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. My family will all be here today for a nice dinner!

This Friday, I'm just grateful.

Today my usual Friday link up with Lauren Elizabeth and A. Liz Adventures is going to be a little different.

Out of everything that happened to me or I did this week, there is only 1 major highlight from my week.

My little brother, Christian, had surgery Monday morning. It was supposed to be Saturday, but was moved to Monday morning at 7am. A week after his accident in Sept. they had to do an emergency surgery because they couldn't get his brain swelling under control and there was no more room. They performed a double bone flap removal. They removed 2 huge pieces of his skull, each the size of your hands. For 3 months these pieces of his skull sat on ice in the hospital. Crazy to think about, huh?

Those 3 months were very difficult. When you are missing skull like that, it's just your skin on top of your brain. To say they've had to be EXTRA careful is an understatement. He had to wear a protective helmet at all times or if they removed it he had to be watched very closely so that he couldn't touch his head, or anything else happen. So, for multiple reasons we were very ready to get those plates put back in. They also decided to put a shunt in to drain excess fluid from his brain to his stomach, that will be there the rest of his life.

Monday morning the surgery was performed and it went flawlessly. The doctor said there are a lot of things that could have gone wrong, but not one thing did. He said God blessed them during that surgery. We know this is just the first of many blessings that are to come regarding Christians healing.

So for now he is resting and recovering from this major surgery, but we are already seeing some exciting changes and can't wait to see more! He has been struggling a little with fever and throwing up, praying for that to get better. We are ready for our boy to be healed and back to us.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support, you can follow the story and his progress here.

Have a wonderful weekend. Today is my last day of work, then my hubby and I are both off all next week. Much needed!

Good morning loves! Real quick- Thank you for your thoughts and prayers regarding my brothers surgery. The surgery was moved from Saturday to Monday. It went great, the surgeon said that God blessed them during that surgery! Christian is recovering now, can't wait to watch him progress.

I was very excited this week, as always, to receive my hot pink bubble mailer. So fun! Here is what I received this month-
Nicka K Polish in Classic Taupe (Full size)
Be a Bombshell The One Stick in Flustered (Full size)
NYX Lipstick in Goddess (Full size)

Product Spotlight: It's A 10 Miracle Leave in Product (& Giveaway Winner)

Ok ladies, I don't talk about hair products much. Mainly because I have crazy hair, no really see here. Hair products are not something I buy a lot of anymore because I feel like I've tried so much and nothing every seems to really make a noticeable difference on my hair. I do really like the Moroccan Oil line and the Aussie 3 minute miracle, but that's about it.

I've had my eye on the It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product for some time after seeing it on many beauty guru's favorites lists. It's about $18 (I got mine at Target), so that isn't terribly expensive, but I just hadn't wanted to splurge on it yet. It's higher priced and well, I didn't really expect it to make a difference. After seeing Katie talk about receiving it in her Birchbox, I decided to go for it!

Well.... Um, it's AMAZING! Finally, something that truly makes a noticeable difference in my hair! I have only used this product for a little over 2 weeks and I can already tell you I will not be without it. Now I really want to try out more products in the line, I bet they rock too.

Here is what the product claims to do-
1 Repair dry, damaged hair
2 Add shine
3 Detangles
4 Thermal styling protection
5 Seals & protects hair color
6 Prevents split ends
7 Stops hair breakage
8 Creates silkiness
9 Enhances natural body
10 Flat iron spray & thermal protector

Here is what I can see a noticeable difference in already. My hair is very shiny, detangles perfectly, less frizz, super silky and soft and it smells amazing. Now the other things it claims, I bet they are working as well, those just aren't immediate things you can notice. The fact that my hair is soft, shiny and less frizzy means a ton to me! I am in love with this product.

Here is the winner of my Christmas giveaway, CONGRATS :)

Do you have any holy grail hair products you think I should try out?

Friday, We Meet Again.

Excited to see another Friday here and the weekend upon us. I don't know about you, but I live for the weekends. I love time off!

Linking up today with Lauren Elizabeth and A. Liz Adventures for a look back on my week! Warning, several food and pet pictures are coming...

ONE- We joined The Strong Family Sunday night for a trip to the Christmas Train. We rode the train that takes you through the story of Jesus, watched the kids play, drank hot chocolate and ate delicious food. I could go for another maple pecan cinnamon roll right about now...

TWO- Tuesday we had dinner over at our friends Angela & Andrews house. She made us a delicious taco soup, we got to snuggle baby Robbie and I got to take some family/baby pictures. I'm not showing any because they are going to be used for their Christmas card, but I did snap a pic of their kitty Maple who wanted to be in on it too. Or maybe she didn't and I stalked her under the tree?

THREE- The in store launch of the Naked 3 palette was Wednesday  night at Sephora. I wasn't planning on it, but I went. I had a giftcard that I had planned on using for it, and I didn't want it to sell out and have to wait months. So I went and joined the crazies! It's beautiful and I am in love.

FOUR- I discovered this and I am hooked. The end.

FIVE- I made this Spinach Tomato Quesadilla with Pesto for us. I absolutely love pesto, so I really liked it and it was quick and easy. We had pita chips and mango pineapple salsa with it. Yum!

There is my little recap of my week, below are a few little random things...

I picked up this cereal at Target. I have to not buy this anymore, I want it all the time. Stupid Target. I knew there was a good reason we rarely buy the good cereals!

I was playing with my new camera and had a little photo shoot with Pixie, until she literally turned her head and would NOT look at me anymore. I guess she'd had enough. She is so stinkin' CUTE!

-My brother is going to be back in Tulsa today and having the surgery tomorrow to put his skull plates back in. They had to do an emergency surgery a week after the accident, 9/7/13, to remove 2 big pieces of his skull due to the swelling. They have been out this entire time. Our family is so ready to have this surgery done and over, and hoping this is what God has been waiting for to give him his healing. Please keep him in your prayers this weekend.

-Don't forget about our Christmas giveaway, open until Mon!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! We have 2 Christmas parties to attend and we'll be at the hospital all weekend.

Give Me Some Sparkle {A Holiday Eye Look}

Happy Wednesday loves! I'm so excited to share a fun eye look with you today that I think is great for the holidays. A little extra sparkle for an upcoming holiday party maybe? Eyeshadow is always what I splurge on and what I love to experiment with. Here is a look I created using the Lorac Pro Palette and 1 other product.

Here is how I created the look-

-You want to apply an eyeshadow primer to your lids first. Check out my faves here
-I mixed mauve & sable and blended them into my crease using windshield wiper motions with a crease brush. This draws the line where you will stop with your lid shade.
-Use a flat shadow brush and press pewter on the lid, just up to your crease
-Then I used a semi pointed brush to apply deep purple just in the outer v of my eye. Use a light hand here, it's very pigmented.
-Now with a clean blending brush, BLEND. It's is so important to blend blend blend, no harsh lines ladies.

-I then used a flat brush and patted cream on my brow bone area, from the top of my crease to my brows. Then I dusted a little bit of nude on top of that for some shimmer.

The look can be complete after that, but I wanted to add a little extra shimmer on top…because honestly, I just love a little extra shimmer!

-I sprayed another flat shadow brush with my Urban Decay Setting Spray and dipped it into this Mica Shimmer Powder in earth. This is a stunning pink toned shimmer I received in my Ipsy bag a few months ago, so happy I dug it out and started using it! I placed this only on the inner half of my lid, I did not go over where I put the deep purple in the outer v. *Spraying your brush with a setting spray really causes that color to pop and stay put.

All I did after that was applied black liquid liner and mascara.

Hope you enjoyed this look, and let me know if you try it out!

It's Friday Again!

Happy Friday loves, it's a snowy one here in Oklahoma. We're getting our first snow and ice of the season. I don't mind the snow, I just want to stay home wrapped in a blanket with my loves though. Getting out in it, not so much…

Linking up for another Friday fave today with Lauren Elizabeth for High Five for Friday and A. Liz Adventures for Five on Friday. Here are some of my highlights from my past week-

My SIL was in town so I had a wonderful dinner with her and some other beautiful favorites of mine! It was great to see her and all the other ladies.

I finally got some of our Christmas decorations out and put up. I love Christmas and always love the decorations that come along with it. They make me happy. Notice the pretty lil canvas on our mantel from the Cheers Y'all Shop on Etsy?

Our camera came in this week. I finally had a few minutes to open the box last night, not going to lie, very intimidating. I feel like I have a long ways to go and a lot to learn. It'll be worth it though!

A while back, my sweet friend Angela introduced me to and got me hooked on the most AMAZING lemon cookie you will ever have in your life. They come from a little bakery in the town she works in and you can only get them on Wednesdays. She surprised me this week with one. OMG they are so good! I cut it in half so I could savor it 2 days in a row. Thanks Ang :)

Snow! Like I said, I don't like to drive in it, but I do like it and think it's pretty. It's so cozy when you're bundled up inside and it's snowing out.

There are my highlights from my week. Nothing big planned this weekend. Maybe a little grocery and Christmas shopping, and trying to stay warm!

Any big plans this weekend?

Don't forget about the Christmas Giveaway!

November Monthly Faves

Hi loves! I've fallen in love with a few new things this month and I am excited to share them with you.

After trying several brow gels and hating them all, I finally spent the $20 on this one. Never turning back. Finally, a brow gel that isn't clumpy and holds my brows perfectly in place all day. Oh Anastasia, you never disappoint.
I wanted the Lorac Pro Palette and Ulta had this set for the same price with extra deluxe samples. Sign me up! All 3 products are new faves. I've used the palette pretty much everyday this month. The primer and the liquid liner are just as amazing.
After seeing Tiffany D talk about this a ton, I decided it was time to try it. LOVE! I am a fan of shadow sticks like this, I find them convenient and easy to use. This color is a beautiful light mauve that stays put all day.
Ok girls, listen up. We all shop and we all shop online. Click here and sign up for Ebates, they literally pay you to shop. All you do is sign up and shop through their site at most any of your favorite websites and they pay you a percentage. Stores percentages always vary, sometimes low and sometimes higher. They send out checks every few months. (I already received and cashed my first check) I have always heard about Ebates, but I just finally signed up. No, it won't be a massive check, but even enough to buy my lunch makes me happy. I mean you're shopping online anyway so why not?
I had to add this on here because I am not a Greek yogurt fan, but I finally found one I actually love. Dustin eats Greek yogurt everyday and he loves them all. However, I always feel like I am eating sour cream, or fruit flavored sour cream. This stuff is low carb and tastes delicious, I highly recommend it if you have trouble finding a Greek yogurt you like too.

Did you find any new faves in the month of November?

These are a few of my Favorite Things {Gifts under $100}

I'm back for the final installment of the These are a few of my Favorite Things Tuesday linkups with Cheers Y'all and Down with the Dearmore's. It's been fun, and makes me want to go shopping, uh oh.

Todays linkup is all about gifts under $100. Here are some things I personally love or would love (hint hint)

One- I love me some Scentsy, especially this birdcage wrap one! It's in our living room and I just adore it. Goes great with the shabby chic trend right now.

Two- I can't get enough of the flannel or fleece pajama sets this year, I want to live in them. How adorable are these DKNY Pj's girls?

Three- I think a nice bottle of wine and some wine glasses are a perfect, fun and unique gift idea. I'm loving this Spiral Stemless Glass Set from Target.

Four- You didn't think I was going to do a gift list without makeup did you?? Palettes are a perfect gift! I recently got the Lorac Pro palette, obsessed. The new Urban Decay Naked 3 palette just launched and of course it's in high demand and already sold out. It'll be back though, don't worry…

Five- For all you fellow iPad owners, or soon to be ones, you need a cute case right? How cute are these Kate Spade ones from Nordstrom? I want them both, and the leopard one. Help.

I can't wait to see all the other gifts under $100 lists today. Thank you to Elise and Jen for hosting this series, it's been fun. I think we're all ready for Christmas now!
