It Pays to Save!

Hey guys, I wanted to do a quick little posting along the lifestyle part of my blog! Recently I was asked by Jenny Creno with The Insider, the blog of CreditCard Insider if I would be interested in participating with an article they were putting together. The article is all about financial advice on wedding planning & budget tips.

I was happy to contribute. You can see here that my hubby and I planned a wedding when we were 21 and 19, with not a lot of money. It was nothing extravagate, but it was our special day and we didn’t go into debt making it happen either.

I am going to be working on a post about Dave Ramsey's FPU Classes that we took, it definitely changed our lives! It is pretty exciting to me though, it deserves a post of it's own....

I submitted a few tips to The Insider, here they are:

Tip #1: DON'T PUT YOURSELF IN ANY DEBT FOR YOUR WEDDING- Only pay cash, only plan a wedding you can truly afford. You want your day to be special, but you don't want to start your new life off with a mound of debt all for that 1 day.

Tip #2: START A SAVINGS FUND TOGETHER- More than likely you are going to combine your money as husband and wife, start off by opening a savings fund together. Pick a specific amount to add to it each month and stick to that. You will be surprised with all the things that just pop up and why not start your marriage with a little cushion, save yourself the stress!

Tip #3: ONLY PICK A COUPLE OF WEDDING DAY SPLURGES- Decide right away what is most important to you both, I would say 2-4 things. Your dress, your photography, a DJ, your cake, your bridesmaids dresses, your flowers, etc... Just pick a few and stick to that, allow those to be your splurges. All the other stuff you can go a little cheaper on, is it really going to matter that much 10 years down that road?

My husband and I practiced these tips early on and then worked hard once we were married to become debt free by paying off common debts like bills and cars. There is nothing more gratifying than being debt free, not even the most amazing dress that you will wear once....

They decided to use tip #2 in the article. It's a great article with some great wedding planning tips, Enjoy!

Thank You.

I'm sitting here at my computer, exactly 4 weeks after the accident. I can't believe it's been that long. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. I know not one of you expect a thank you, but we want you to know that we see and hear every single thing and appreciate it more than you'll ever know.

Daily we are blown away by the care and kindness we experience from each one of you! The prayers, the kind words, the get well cards, the fundraisers, the donations, the wearing of his number, taking care of my parents animals, EVERYTHING.
I will always remember being in the Dallas airport while mom and I were trying to make our way home from Cancun. Like MANY families, there are financial struggles, and no family is ever prepared to abandon their home and live in a hospital for several months. My mom began to cry wondering how in the world they were going to make it. I assured her that they would be FINE, that people are always taken care of in these situations. But, I never dreamed that it would turn into what it has. Simply because if you've never been in a situation like this, you truly are not prepared, in so many ways.

All of your amazing acts of kindness are making it to where my family is able to keep their focus on 1 thing and 1 thing only, Christian and his healing.

Christian is making progress, it's going to be a slow process but it's positive! Glory be to God. When I think back to that Saturday he had the surgery, he has made HUGE progress since then! That was the absolute worst day/night of the hospital stay. They are moving him to The Children's Center in Bethany, OK this coming week for long term recovery and rehab. He is only going to continue to get better and better until it's time to go back to Muldrow!

So again, THANK YOU to every single one of you, for everything you have done and continue to do for my parents and Christian. It has truly touched our family. I am so excited for the day that we get to sit down with Christian and show him all the amazing pictures and share all the stories. He has affected the lives of so many people, and he doesn't even know it yet....

-Thank you all, from all of Christian's family
You can follow his story and progress on the Facebook support page.

PS-I'm going to slowly make my way back into blogging this week, I'll be back Wed with Septembers Ipsy bag! (A little late...)

Hey guys. I'm writing tonight with a heavy heart. I'm writing for a few different reasons; the story to show my little brother one day soon, to fill everyone in on what's been going on, to thank people for support and to most importantly ask for prayers from anyone and everyone who will offer them up for us.

As you know my mom and I left for Cancun last Saturday morning, I took her to celebrate her 50th birthday. We checked in and got upgraded to a beautiful resort next door, paradise for sure.

Monday morning we woke up to a facetime call from my husband, facetime because we have no service in Mexico, only wifi. He was calling with bad news. He had to call and tell us my little brother had been in an ATV accident and it wasn't good. He was taken by plane from Ft Smith to Tulsa and in critical condition with brain injuries. You can only imagine how hard this was for my mother, and myself to hear while on vacation in another country.

We immediately went down stairs and spent hours trying to get us back home. They weren't able to get us out that day, we had to wait until early Tuesday morning to get a flight out. I never thought I would use the term "stuck in Cancun" or be praying for the day to pass quickly. We just wanted to get back home.

Once we got off the plane back in Tulsa we were relieved but scared to death. Walking into that hospital room and seeing my "big" little 16 year old brother in that hospital bed in a coma was about more than we could take. The absolute hardest moment in my life. You never think you are going to go through this.

Tonight it's been a week since the accident. He is still in a coma and this week has been a roller coaster of emotions. Sad, anger, confusion, heartbreak, etc. All week they've been monitoring his numbers and after not being able to keep them down yesterday they had to quickly go in and do a Bilateral Frontal Parietal Craniotomy with bone flap removal to relieve the pressure. Today has been a good day. The doctor is pleased with the success of the surgery and a few victories were made from yesterday.

We are a family full of faith, we are believing in God that he will be 100% healed and ok. The support and prayers that we have received this week are overwhelming. Of course the doctors have to give us the worst case scenarios but we know who is in charge here, my little brother is going to have one heck of a story to tell once he wakes up.

His name is Christian Mayberry, known as Mayberry. My "big" little brother is the sweetest boy you'll ever know. So kind, precious, innocent, giving, caring, loving. Not your typical 16 year old boy. He is our gentle giant. He is so full of love, and all he wants is to be liked. He doesn't deserve this.

I can't wait to see his eyes open, to see his smile, squeeze the heck out of him, and most importantly show him all this support he is receiving while he is asleep. He will feel like a celebrity for sure!

Thank you so much to everyone who has been there for our family and been praying this last week. Christian has a long road ahead of him. Our whole family does, but we ARE strong and will get through this. Again, the support and prayers are so touching.

A teammate wearing his jersey, #75

Stacks of get well cards we sat and read through last night from kids at school, so precious.

Painted on the football field before the prayer vigil that they held tonight, man will he love this!

Spruced up his room a bit with some pictures of his smile

I am asking for your prayers. So many people are praying and they are working, God is hearing them. My precious baby brother and our family needs them. Also, pray for the nurses and doctors that are taking care of him 24/7, for God to guide them as well.

I will be taking a little break from blogging for a while. Hope to be back soon!

Review: Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream

Good morning loves! Hope everyone has had a wonderful week. I will be heading home from my Mexico trip later today; I can’t wait to post a couple recaps and photos from our trip. I just LOVE the beach, I’m my mommas girl for sure.

Today I am going to be telling you about my new favorite morning eye cream. I have a morning and night eye cream, is that common or do most people just use one? Maybe one day I will find one that I can use for both am & pm, but for now this is what I am doing. I have oily skin, my Anti-Gravity Clinique one is too thick and greasy for daytime use. Plus, I wanted something geared towards waking you up in the mornings, brightening up those eyes.

I found it, I sure love it anyway… I saw Jaclyn Hill talk about it so I thought I would give it a try!

This is Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream. They claim it instantly de-puffs and reduces dark circles around your eyes, and it’s free of all the harsh chemicals that we try to stay away from. The cream is an iridescent champagne color, so yes that obviously helps with maybe a little illusion of lightening up dark circles. But hey, I’ll take it.

I really do feel like it helps make my eyes feel less puffy, almost instantly. For the last 8-10 months I have felt like I’ve noticed that puffy eye feeling a little more often. I didn’t notice a huge change visually, just felt like they were very puffy well into late morning. I do not feel that anymore after starting to use this.

It took me a little while to bite the bullet and make the purchase. It’s $30 and a tiny jar, so I wasn’t sure. I am glad I went for it though; I believe it’s going to be a staple in my beauty routine for a while. Don’t let the cost scare you like it did me, it’s a tiny jar but I feel like it’s going to last me forever! You use a tiny dab under eye.

Let me know if you have any favorite eye products I should try out!

Top 5 Honest products

Hey loves, I am so happy to have Kristal here on the blog today while I am on vacation! She is my dear friend, fellow blogger and one of the sweetest girls I've ever known... Make sure to go check out her blog when you're done here!

Hello everybody! I am thrilled to be doing a guest post for Mia while she is soaking up the rays with her beautiful momma! I’ve been using Honest products for a few months now and have raved about it so much I even convinced Mia to give them a try. So, I thought I would share my top 5 picks with you, hoping you might find something you love, too!

I had been using a natural laundry detergent already and didn’t necessarily dislike it, but it also didn’t work as well as I wanted. So, after receiving a sample of this in the trial pack, I made the switch to the Honest laundry detergent. I love it and don’t see myself switching to anything else for quite some time. It does a good job of removing any stains my kiddos may have acquired throughout the day and I know it’s made with safe ingredients that aren’t going to irritate our skin.

To go along nicely with the laundry detergent, I love, love these oxy boost packs. As I mentioned with the detergent, my kiddos seems to get stains on their clothes quite frequently. These little packs work so well to aid the laundry detergent in removing those pesky stains.

I love, love, love this conditioning mist! My daughter has long hair that gets so tangled throughout the day and after bath time. This conditioning mist works almost immediately to remove the tangles so I can painlessly brush her hair. And it smells great, too! I’ve used it with her wet hair and her dry hair and it works well both ways! I’ve even used this on myself countless times and love it for me, too!

I don’t know about you, but I really dislike cleaning the bathroom!! I have this weird “thing” about hair, but that’s a whole other post. So, I don’t like cleaning the bathroom but I love the Honest bathroom cleaning products. This is a great toilet cleaner and has a nice smell, unlike other “green” cleaners I’ve used.

And to go along with the toilet cleaner, I really love the bathroom cleaner. It smells good and cleans all the bathroom surfaces beautifully!

So, those are my top 5 Honest picks. I’d love to know if you try any and what you think about them! Or if you try another Honest product and just love it, let me know.

Thank you, Mia, for having me and thank you for reading! I hope you find something helpful from this post. And if you like what you’ve seen, I’d love for you to join me over at The Strong Family.

Monthly Faves: Aug 2013

Hello loves! By the time you'll be reading this, I will have my toes in the sand and a drink in my hand in Mexico! I'm sure I'll be having a grand time :)

It's time for my August monthly faves already. I can't believe since I started this blog, this is my 3rd monthly faves already, CRAZY!

I really love doing these. It's fun to take note and pay attention to what products I've either tried and loved or just been reaching for a lot over the last month and fallen in love with again.

{Beauty Faves}
I bought this stuff a couple months ago and really started using it this month. I love it! It's Big Sexy Hair Flip it Over Texture Spray. You literally flip your hair over, spray it throughout and kind of crunch it a little. It works so good. I will say it stinks, pretty bad. I don't really like that, but I don't feel like it makes your hair stink or anything.

I have had this for probably about a year, but lately I've been using it daily! It's Rimmel Blush in Autumn Catwalk. You can't really tell here, but that light pink has a beautiful shimmer to it, its like a blush + highlight. It's the perfect combo of pinks, I sweep my brush from dark to light before applying. I bought this after Missglamorazzi raved about it. It's so worth it, plus it's cheap!

I got this Mac Lipstick in Midimauve after taking in my 6 empties to Mac. To be honest, they were out of all the shades I wanted so I kind of settled with this one, stuck it in my drawer and forgot about it. I discovered it lately and oh my gosh I'm obsessed. I keep it in my purse and grab it every day! It's the perfect brown and mauve shade. LOVE!

As you saw in my Ipsy posting, I got this Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub. I have quickly fallen in love. It's BLACK and weird to smear on your face, but I love the way my face feels afterwards. It has very fine exfoliators in it which I love. I have since purchased the full skincare line for oily skin, I'm waiting on it to be delivered! I'm excited to try more of the Michael Todd line out.

One of my absolute favorite blogs lately has been Kissable Complexions. Her name is Jade, she is a stunning and talented makeup artist. I am obsessed with her work, especially this recent makeover below.

Ahhh swoon, this girl is so beautiful. Makeup is such an art!

{Non Beauty Faves}
Yup, another cereal. This stuff rocks! Go try it....

I have recently discovered the Vine app. I am particularly loving all the funny videos, the humor and cat videos are cracking me up!

There you have it, my monthly favorites! What are yours?

Make sure you stop back by Wednesday for a guest posting from my sweet friend Kristal, she'll be here sharing some fun products with you and I'll be over on her blog!
