Hey guys, I wanted to do a quick little posting along the lifestyle part of my blog! Recently I was asked by Jenny Creno with The Insider, the blog of CreditCard Insider if I would be interested in participating with an article they were putting together. The article is all about financial advice on wedding planning & budget tips.
I was happy to contribute. You can see here that my hubby and I planned a wedding when we were 21 and 19, with not a lot of money. It was nothing extravagate, but it was our special day and we didn’t go into debt making it happen either.
I am going to be working on a post about Dave Ramsey's FPU Classes that we took, it definitely changed our lives! It is pretty exciting to me though, it deserves a post of it's own....
I submitted a few tips to The Insider, here they are:
Tip #1: DON'T PUT YOURSELF IN ANY DEBT FOR YOUR WEDDING- Only pay cash, only plan a wedding you can truly afford. You want your day to be special, but you don't want to start your new life off with a mound of debt all for that 1 day.Tip #2: START A SAVINGS FUND TOGETHER- More than likely you are going to combine your money as husband and wife, start off by opening a savings fund together. Pick a specific amount to add to it each month and stick to that. You will be surprised with all the things that just pop up and why not start your marriage with a little cushion, save yourself the stress!Tip #3: ONLY PICK A COUPLE OF WEDDING DAY SPLURGES- Decide right away what is most important to you both, I would say 2-4 things. Your dress, your photography, a DJ, your cake, your bridesmaids dresses, your flowers, etc... Just pick a few and stick to that, allow those to be your splurges. All the other stuff you can go a little cheaper on, is it really going to matter that much 10 years down that road?My husband and I practiced these tips early on and then worked hard once we were married to become debt free by paying off common debts like bills and cars. There is nothing more gratifying than being debt free, not even the most amazing dress that you will wear once....
They decided to use tip #2 in the article. It's a great article with some great wedding planning tips, Enjoy!
